TIRUPATI: Despite steps by TTD to prevent landslides on the second ghat road, a boulder landed on the road at 8th kilometre around 3.30pm on Saturday. However, vehicle movement was not affected, as the fall was to the edge of the road close to the parapet wall.
Passers by informed the tollgate staff about the stone and they in turn alerted the Vigilance and Engineering wings. A crane was rushed to the spot and the boulder weighing about one tonne was removed and dropped into the valley.
A daily commuter to Tirumala from Tirupati by motorcycle, Naveen Kumar, said, “We are scared over driving on the ghat road because of frequent landslides.”
