Some soulful morning Ragas
He started the programme with an ‘Alaap’ in Raga Ahir Bhairav
Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar gave a sarod recital at Samantak Hall, Secunderabad Club, on behalf of ICCR and Surmandal.
He started the programme with an ‘Alaap’ in Raga Ahir Bhairav and followed it with a composition in ‘Rupak’ and ‘Jhaptaal’ set to the accompaniment on Tabla by Pandit Shubhankar Banerjee.
The next piece was a soulful composition in Raga Yamani Bilawal set to Madhyalaya ‘Teentaal’ followed by a folk tune.
Tejendra Narayan is hopeful that the younger generation comes forward in large numbers to learn ‘Sarod’ and is happy about the ‘Gurukul’ set up by the Bengal Foundation in Bangladesh. According to him, there is a need to set up many more ‘Gurukuls’ all over the country to spread classical music and reach out to the interested in every nook and corner of India.
