The letter, written in Telugu, was sent via post to Visakhapatnam Airport Director
Hyderabad: An anonymous letter threatening to "target" Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana besides blowing up vital installations, including Visakhapatnam Airport, has been received by the authorities, prompting them to step up security in the two states.
Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Amit Garg confirmed that the Visakhapatnam Airport authorities had received the threat letter a few days ago.
The letter, written in Telugu and purportedly originating from Nirmal town of Adilabad district of Telangana, was sent via post to Visakhapatnam Airport Director. It has warned of "targeting" the Chief Ministers.
Besides the Vizag airport, the letter has also threatened to blow up other vital installations, including the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), also known as Sriharikota Range (SHAR) in Nellore district and ports in Andhra Pradesh, a senior police official said.
Another senior police officer said that in view of the threat letter, security in and around the airport and other vital installations has been beefed up by deploying additional forces. "We are collecting intelligence inputs in this regard," he said.
