Hyderabad: Union minister for science and technology Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday that the Centre will soon appoint a new director to the city-based National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI).

NGRI has been functioning without a director for quite some time now with Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) director Dr Ch Mohan Rao working as the director in-charge.

However, Mr Harsh Vardhan said the process of appointing a new director is moving at a fast pace. “NGRI will get a new director very soon,” Mr Harsh Vardhan said.

He was visiting the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy & New Materials here on Sunday. The minister applauded the work being carried out by the institution.

He called upon scientists to identify social problems and find solutions to them. He said all the countrymen and scientists, in particular, needed a new attitude to solve the problems plaguing the nation.

Mr Harsh Vardhan also said that the Centre is preparing new roadmaps for all scientific institutions. All laboratories under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research had earlier met in Dehradun to chalk out a new plan. He said central laboratories working on ocean technologies will also soon hold a meet to discuss the future plans.
