Hyderabad: A palm oil spill from a biscuit company blocked traffic for hours, inconveniencing the public and injuring some bikers who slipped and fell on the road. The incident happened on Saturday at the Katedan industrial area.

The company, Payal Food Products, located at Madhuban Colony, has an oil storage tank with a capacity of 10,000 litres. The tank is connected via a pipeline to the factory.

On Saturday at around 6.30 am commuters saw oil flowing on the Old Kurnool highway. The oil spread to a distance of around four km. “We found the origin of the spill and alerted the company authorities. We are investigating the spill,” said inspector S. Venkat Reddy.

Traffic came to a halt for around three hours. Cops with the help of company staff and other workers cleared the spill by dumping sand on the oil.

Traffic was diverted from Madhuban Colony towards Ganeshnagar in Mailardepally and traffic from Kurnool was diverted to the Bengaluru highway and to Aramgarh X Roads. The company authorities filed a complaint.
