People’s panel to review corporation work
Implementation of poll sops, council performance to be under yearly scrutiny
KOCHI: The Left Democratic Front has promised to hold a people’s assembly every year to review the progress made by the corporation council in implementing the promises made at the time of elections.
Announcing the LDF candidates for Kochi Corporation elections here on Sunday, CPM district secretary P. Rajeev said the people’s assembly would provide an opportunity to voters to assess the performance of the council.
Mr Rajeev made the announcement in the people’s assembly convened to release the LDF election manifesto and the names of the candidates.
The CPM leader also promised that assets of all LDF councillors would be made public every year as part of the commitment to provide a corruption-free administration.
He also said a mechanism would have to be devised in every party for the people to report about any wrongdoing by the councillors.
LDF will also explore the possibility of setting up a ‘planning board’ for the corporation with experts from various fields.
The LDF has prepared the manifesto after vetting over 10,000 suggestions received from people and organisations from various walks of life.
The suggestions were collected through 200 squads and drop boxes at vantage points. LDF leaders individually also sought suggestions from chambers of commerce and trade, professional organisations such as the Indian Medical Association’s Kochi unit and non-governmental organisations.
