Valiyathura Police disrupts beef festival

The SIO activists claimed that permission was not needed as the beef fest and meeting did not require mic and speakers

Thiruvananthapuram: High drama took place near Shankumugham beach on Sunday as police prevented Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) activists from holding a beef fest here.

As per Valiyathura police, the activists who had not sought permission to hold any programme here.

The activists set up tables at around 4.30pm and was holding a grand meeting to "rebel against the brahminical justice" protesting the lynching of a man at Dadri, Uttar Pradesh for alleged beef consumption.

The police took around 20 activists of SIO to Valiyathura station as they started serving notices.    Activists who claimed delay in letting off their leaders stages a station march and a minor lathi charge followed.

The  beef curry was poured into  station premises, police said. The Indendent Fish workers Federation, Dalit Panthers officials etc had arrived here to support SIO beef festivals.
