Google reward goes away to charity
He asked that the money be donated to charity to the Art of Living India Foundation
Remember the guy who bought Google.com for a minute at $12? Now, Google had decided to reward him for informing about the incident. But the 29-year-old Hyderabadi, Sanmay Ved, decided to give it all away to charity.
“Google Security has offered me a $x reward in a Googley way. In the first email they sent to me in response to my email reporting the incident, they had proactively stated that I was not eligible for any reward for reporting this (I never asked, they proactively stated),” he says.
But Sanmay wrote back to them and asked them to donate the money to the Art of Living India Foundation. “They have replied and have stated that they understand and respect the fact that this was not about getting a reward. Despite that, given what they found, and how this was handled, they are ‘excited’ to offer me a reward,” adds Sanmay.
He continues, “As per my request, they will now donate the reward amount to the Art of Living India foundation. I have chosen that the donation be made towards the Art of Living's education program which runs free schools across 18 states of India.”
Sanmay adds, “In the interest of protecting Google, I do not wish to discuss the particulars of their final finding, and the reward amount."
Though Sanmay refused to disclose the amount, reports suggested that the amount was more than $10,000.
