Srinagar: An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Pulwama district of Kashmir on Tuesday, police said.

The gunbattle erupted after security forces cordoned off Dogripora village following a tip-off about presence of militants and launched a search operation, a police officer said.

As the forces were conducting searches in the area, militants fired at them, triggering an encounter, he said.

The exchange of fire was going on, the officer said, adding further details were awaited.
