One killed, five injured in road accident in Andhra Pradesh

Machilipatnam: One person was killed and five others injured after a speeding lorry hit a stationary auto-rickshaw at Bhiravapatnam railway gate, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place Monday night on the National Highway 214 in the Krishna district, Sub-Inspector, Mandavalli police station A Manikumar said.

A auto-rickshaw carrying 7 members was standing at the gate when the lorry, which was on its way to Gudivada rammed into it. Two other persons who were in the auto-rickshaw remained unhurt, he said.

The deceased has been identified as P Ravikumar. Four injured have been admitted to Kykaluru Government Hospital while one has been shifted to Eluru Government Hospital and his condition was stated to be critical, the officer said.

A case has been registered in this connection and efforts are on to nab the lorry driver, who is absconding, police said.
