Here’s why Anushka Shetty didn’t act in Singham
Actress clears the air about why she isn’t keen on working in B’wood right now
Anushka Shetty is currently at the top of her game. Baahubali (her character will have much more screen space in the second part), Rudhramadevi and the upcoming Size Zero have propelled her to a status, which usually only the heroes of Tollywood occupy.
She had been offered Rohit Shetty’s Singham in 2011 but things did not work out and the role went to Kaajal Aggarwal instead. According to reports, Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn were so upset with Anushka that all their friends (read half of the Mumbai film industry) grew wary of her.
Says Anushka, “Yes, a lot was written in Mumbai about why I couldn’t do Singham and so much of it was so untrue. But it was all because of a miscommunication regarding numbers (price). So far, the offers from Mumbai have not really been that inviting. But that may change soon. Right now I am focusing on my two Telugu projects Singham 3 and
Baahubali 2.”
While the heroine in the Bollywood franchise of Singham keep changing, Anushka says she enjoys being a steadfast part of the Singham series in Tamil.
“It’s an honour to be an integral part of something so successful, although I am not the pivotal character in this series.
“I remember when the first Singham film was offered to me I was thrilled to be working with the talented actor Surya and director Hari. It became a hit. Then they came to me the second time.”
