Indian music wizard A R Rahman recently admitted that he did not know Pele before he composed music for a biopic on the Brazilian football legend. Rahman who met Pele for the first time was highly elated. The latter was present as a part of ‘Legend Tour of India’ at Kolkatta.
The award-winning composer said, “I have very little knowledge about sports. I only know two people — Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar. I scored music for the biopic on Pele without even knowing him. I cried thrice when I saw the complete version of the movie,” Rahman reportedly said after meeting the football legend.
He was quoted saying, “Pele is such an amazing personality and a great inspiration. I was waiting for a chance to meet him.” As AR Rahman sang the signature ‘Happy birthday’ jingle for Pele who turns 75 on October 23, former Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly clapped in reverence. A visibly emotional Pele remarked, “I thank God for this day.” ARR wrote about this emotional experience on Twitter and posted a few pictures as well.
