Fans, hold your breath! Arnold Schwarzenegger, an actor renowned for playing one of the most famous anti-heroes of our times,  in the legendary Terminator franchise, will soon lock horns with none other than Superstar Rajinikanth — in what surely will be the mother of all casting coups. Of course, the man behind it is none other than visionary filmmaker Shankar, who has brought the two global icons together for his upcoming film Enthiran 2, a sequel to the blockbuster original in 2010.

The idea first surfaced when Arnie attended the audio launch of Shankar’s I in Chennai last year to much fanfare, with the director approaching the Austrian-American bodybuilder and politician for acting in a Tamil film shortly. Talks progressed at a swift rate after which Arnie received the bound script for the movie, and was impressed with it immediately. However, the director, known for his lavish, larger-than-life films, wanted full 50 days of shooting from the star — whereas Arnie, being a technician himself, felt 32 days were enough for the script. Eventually, he said okay to 35 days — but Shankar felt it still wouldn’t be enough.

That resulted in the idea being dropped momentarily; Shankar went back to the drawing board, considering Vikram instead to play the antagonist. But having come so close to nearly achieving a masterstroke, Arnie was consulted again — and this time a mutual decision was reached mutually, with him agreeing to 40 days of shooting for the project.

If the news isn’t overwhelming enough in itself, take into account what the former Mr. Universe is being offered for the movie — a whopping 100 crores! Yes, that includes the total package, which Arnie and his convoy will receive, during their time here.
Produced by Lyca, Enthiran 2 seems like it shall not only blow Baahubali’s budget out of the water, but also set new precedents and records, even before the filming begins! It should also be noted, that Shankar, for all his showmanship, never fails to justify his spending with the results on screen.

Given that both Terminator and Enthiran featured the stars as robots, their coming together in what is expected to be another sci-fi visual extravaganza raises expectations to epic levels. Did you ever think Rajini vs. Rajini in the original couldn’t be surpassed? Shankar sure showed us all up! DC tried contacting the director for comment, but he couldn’t be reached.
