Bengaluru: 14-year-old sexually assaulted by step-dad

Bengaluru: A 14-year-old girl has alleged rape by her 45-year-old step-father over a period of six months to one year at her house in west Bengaluru. The mother of the victim lodged a complaint at the Byatarayanapura police station on Monday after the victim revealed it to her maternal uncle that she was sexually exploited and was threatened over a period of time not to reveal it to anyone.

The police have registered a case of rape and several sections under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and have arrested the accused.

The step-father and the 38-year-old mother of the victim, both were married for the second time. While the step father had a son from his previous marriage, the mother had a daughter from her previous marriage, who is the victim at present, said the police. The couple had four more children born out of their wedlock, and all of them live under one roof.

The victim, a class 9 student, had recently visited her grandmother’s house and revealed about the sexual exploitation by her step-dad to her maternal relatives. The enraged relatives stormed into the house of the accused on Monday night and gave him sound thrashing. In the melee, the accused while trying to escape from his house, jumped from the first floor and fractured his leg, the police said. “We have secured the accused who is being questioned,” said Labhu Ram, DCP West Division.

The victim was taken for medical examinations by women police staff to the Victoria Hospital on Tuesday morning. A case of rape and sections under POCSO have been booked against the accused, the police said.
