Hyderabad: AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh on Tuesday alleged that both the Chief Ministers of TS and AP, K. Chandrasekhar Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu respectively, were capable of breaking the promises they made to people. Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Mr Singh said both the CMs came to power making false promises and were unable to fulfil them even after 15 months in power.
He also demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi announce Special Category Status to AP as promised by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on the floor of Rajya Sabha last year. “UPA government, after making the promise on special status, approved it in a Cabinet meeting. However, it was subsequently ignored by Modi,” Mr Singh said. Welcoming YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s indefinite fast for special status to AP, Mr Singh said, “For the sake of this genuine cause, the Congress will work together with other Opposition parties in the future and take up agitations.”
He said that Mr Naidu had earlier exerted pressure on the PM to grant special status, but was at present seemingly disinterested and ignoring the issue for reasons best known to him. “The people of AP want special status, not the special package that is being talked about,” Mr Singh said. Criticising Mr Rao, he said that time and again, it was being proven that entire administration in TS was being run by the family members of the CM and the TRS rule was “nothing but autocratic and dictatorial”.
“Where is 12 per cent reservation for Muslims and STs? Where are the double bedrooms? Where is the three acre land, promised to each Dalit family? Even the loan waiver for farmers has not been implemented fully,” Mr Singh said.
