Civil police officer of Palluruthy arrested for extortion
The woman thought that she was cheated by some anti-socials filed a complaint to the DCP.
KOCHI: A civil police officer of Palluruthy police station, engaged in extortion of money from women running sex rackets in the city, was arrested by central police on Wednesday. The arrested has been identified as Ganesh Kumar of Madavana House from Ambalapuzha.
According to the police, he had forcibly taken Rs 10,000 from a woman at Layam Road, who was allegedly involved in running a sex racket, by threatening to register a case against her for immoral trafficking. The incident came to light when the police was investigating a similar case, police officials said.
A man in posing as a member of shadow police visited a woman allegedly running a sex racket in Kadavanthara and forcefully collected mobile phone and money from her three months ago.
The woman thought that she was cheated by some anti-socials filed a complaint to the DCP. The civil police officer arrested on Wednesday came under the radar of the probe team during the investigation in the case but he could not be held as the complainant failed to identify him. He was trapped in the new case as the complainant recognized him.
Four held for immoral trafficking
Four people were arrested by Palarivattom police on Wednesday for immoral trafficking. The arrested have been identified as Faizal (36), son of Ashraf from Alappuzha; Preetha (36), daughter of Yesudas from Cherthala; Sunitha (36), daughter of Aniyan from Mulagunnathukavu in Thrissur; and Sreejith (38), son of Sreekantan Nair from Aruvikkara in Thiruvananthapuram. According to police, Faizal, Sunitha and Preetha were running a sex racket and Sreejith came to have a deal with them. They were produced before the court and remanded.
