Bengaluru: The storm water drain cleaning work in HSR Layout has miffed residents and commuters as the civic agency has thrown drain stone slabs and debris haphazardly in the middle of the road, affecting the movement of motorists.

Driving becomes even more dangerous as most of the roads in the area do not have streetlights. Though the work started over ten days ago, the stone slabs continue to lay on the roads.

Mr Ravi Verma, a resident of HSR Layout, said, “On Monday night when I was driving back home from Electronics City, I almost crashed into one of the slabs on the road as there was no light on the street. I managed to avoid it, but it could prove fatal to someone else.”

Mr Sunil Kumar, a commuter, said, “There are atleast 8-10 areas where these slabs have been kept this way. I drive a two-wheeler and the slabs’ sharp edges can injure someone seriously.” Barun Majumdar, a resident, said, “I am scared that children playing on the roads or cycling may get hurt.”

The workers said that their contractor had asked them to leave the stone slabs on roads and footpaths. Corporator Gurumurthy Reddy, who seemed unaware of the mess, gave the stock reply, “I will check and rectify the issue immediately.”
