Hyderabad: Yellow markings outside the Koti Kamat Hotel and junction of Andhra Bank has made the traders of Sultan Bazaar and building owners apprehensive that the Hyderabad Metro Rail will take its original route.
General secretary of Sultan Bazaar Traders’ Association C. Madhusudan Rao said, “We are upset because there are huge square shaped markings on the road indicating that the metro pillars are going to come up there. These markings were not there earlier. They have come up only in the last four days. We are confused and want the government to come out clearly on its stand for metro re-alignment.”
The traders, along with building owners, protested against these marking on Thursday afternoon. Mr Rao said, “The Hyderabad Metro Rail is misguiding Telangana State Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao who had promised that he would save Sultan Bazaar. After a statement in the Legislative Assembly, we were hoping that an alternate route would be worked out. But they are going back on the same old route which is going to take away the livelihood of hundreds of traders in this area.”
Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director N.V.S Reddy and L&T managing director V.B. Gadgil meanwhile, did not explain what the markings were for. Mr Gadgil only said, “We have not got any official communication from the government.”
