Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is going all out to win the Narayankhed Assembly seat byelection for which was necessitated following the demise of sitting Congress MLA Patlolla Kishta Reddy. With a survey report indicating that the TRS has a 52 per cent chance of winning the seat, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao has reportedly asked irrigation minister T. Harish Rao and other party seniors to give a big push to the campaign to ensure victory for the TRS nominee.
Following the green signal, half a dozen ministers, besides MPs, MLAs and other senior party leaders have descended the remote and backward constituency in Medak district, bordering Bidar district of Karnataka and announced a plethora of welfare and developmental schemes, leaving voters bewildered.
Though TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy has appealed to the TRS and other parties to leave the seat to the family of Kishta Reddy, as is the norm in case of death of sitting members, the rival parties haven’t responded yet, keeping the contest open. “We haven’t got any reply from the TRS so far,” the TPCC chief said.
In the 2014 Assembly elections, Kishta Reddy had defeated TRS nominee Mahareddy Bhupal Reddy, the TRS in-charge of the constituency, by a margin of 14,746 votes. The constituency has been represented either by Shetkar family or Kishta Reddy family, in turns, since 1957.
