Chennai: Body of four-year-old boy exhumed for probe
Quack had administered two injections after which the boy developed complications and later died
Chennai: Revenue officials on Friday evening exhumed the body of a four-year-old boy who died after he was given treatment by a quack for a mysterious fever in a village near Periyapalayam in Thiruvallur district, for a medical investigation.
Sridhar, son of Vijayan and Soorya, couple of Vilapakkam village, died on October 13, after he was given an injection by a quack, who was later arrested by the police. “The boy was treated for fever in a private clinic run by one Maheswaran, who turned out to be a fake doctor. After he was arrested the local people alleged that boy died because of injections given by quack,” the police said.
The quack had administered two injections after which the boy developed complications and later died. We decided to exhume the body for post-mortem to know the exact reason for the death of the boy. Post-mortem was conducted on Saturday.
A detailed report is expected soon, Veera Raghava Rao, Thiruvallur district collector, told DC. The body of the boy was exhumed in the presence of Uthukottai tashildar, Periyapalayam inspector and a medical team from Thiruvallur government hospital.
The collector also added that efforts are on to weed out fake doctors and health official teams are being formed to create awareness among public on how to fight viral infections.
