Kotagiri: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa participated in the 44th anniversary of the AIADMK here on Saturday. She was at the function, held at the MGR statue circle at Donnington area here, for 10 minutes. She did not address the public. There was an unprecedented turn out of public and party cadres at the venue.

It was a sea of human gathering at the Kotagiri right from Saturday early morning. The hill town wore a festive look with banners, flex boards and other festoons exhibiting the mood of the party cadres.  Dance and music programmes by tribesmen and local Badagas surcharged the atmosphere. Two life-size elephant replicas were an added attraction at the venue.

The  Chief Minister arrived around 11.25 am to a thunderous welcome by partymen and public. She paid floral tributes to a portrait of MGR kept near the MGR statue and  hoisted the party flag.  She released a souvenir to commemorate the anniversary  and then distributed sweets to a few people standing nearby.  She handed over appointment orders to five youth, including two girls, who have been selected by various private companies in the employment-mela being conducted at DrRadhakrishnan Nagar constituency in Chennai.  She waved  to the gathering before leaving the venue.
