Shatrughan Sinha takes aim at PM rally cancellation

Patna: Film actor-turned-BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha on Saturday said the “cancellation” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rallies in Bihar was sending a “negative message”.

“A situation that led our star campaigner PM to cancel his Bihar rallies at the last minute...sending a negative message???” Sinha tweeted.

BJP in a bid to counter the resurgent grand secular alliance in Bihar has restructured its campaign strategies.

After reports of neck to neck fight with Nitish Kumar the party has planned to carpet bomb the ongoing poll campaign by holding Prime Minister’s rallies in October.

Announcing fresh dates of rallies to be addressed by PM Narendra Modi, leaders of state unit said “Prime Minister will address seven rallies in October, dates has been designed in such a manner that it doesn’t collide with festival in Bihar”.

Mr Modi they said will address rallies on October 25, 26 and 27. After the second phase ended in Bihar on Friday slight lull in poll campaigning is expected due to the upcoming Durga Puja and Muharram festivals.

Third phase of assembly polls in Bihar is slated for October 28.

Meanwhile, accusing Narendra Modi government of trying to impose its ideology on people, Sonia Gandhi on saturday said communal frenzy is being created, innocents are killed on rumours and intellectuals are targeted under its rule which is threatening the country’s democratic and social fabric.

Addressing an election rally in Buxar, the Congress president took on the Prime Minister over his repeated attack on the Congress rule  retorting that her party had zealously strengthened democracy which allowed Modi to become the Prime Minister.

“BJP government is moving away from democratic ideals. It is creating a serious threat for our democracy by imposing its ideology on the people. Communal tension is being created.

“Innocents are being killed on the basis of rumours. The way intellectuals are being attacked, they are being denied freedom to express their views. It is trying to weaken the foundation of social harmony. It is not just sad but also shameful,” she said.
