Guntur: The foundation programme has brought its share of joys for the capital region, smooth roads being one of them. The capital region now has five new roads at the service of the people.

As roads have been the symbol of civilization since ancient times hence these roads are being given a modern look.

Earlier, there was only one way - the Vijayawada-Undavalli- Amaravati road - to reach Tullur, Rayapudi, Lingayapalem, Mandadam, Venkatapalem and other areas of the capital region. Now these areas are getting new roads under the new capital foundation programme.

A parallel new road to Karakatta (river bund) Road, another new road from Undavalli to Uddandarayunipalem, Venkatapalem via Mandadam to Uddandarayunipalem, Tullur-Rayapudi bypass, Undavalli to CM’s camp office and Uddandarayuni-palem to Velagapudi via Mandadam will change the face of the capital region.

Interestingly, earlier Uddandarayunipalem, which is the proposed Amaravati downtown, was barred from goods transport facility. There was only one narrow bumpy road namely Bheeshmacharya Road from the Karakatta Road to reach Uddandarayuni-palem. However, at present six wide roads are connecting Uddandarayunipalem.

Similarly, Tallayapalem situated beside Uddandarayunipalem did not have proper road connectivity and this village is located in a close proximity of the site where the Amaravati gateway is proposed by Singapore planners. Now Tallayapalem has a good road connectivity with three new roads passing through the village.

The local people are enjoying a smooth ride. A local trader of Mandadam, Y. Venkateswarlu said that he used to face a lot of difficulties on the narrow roads to carry groceries from Vijayawada wholesale market on his motorcycle but now these roads have become smooth and wide, thanks to the new foundation programme.

The Vijayawada-Undavalli-Tullur-Amar-avati Road was a narrow road where buses and lorries had to move down the road margin to give way to vehicles on the opposite side. This road has been widened and buses and lorries are moving smoothly. A bus driver, D. Nagesh said they are saving time and reaching destinations as per schedule and added that the new capital foundation programme changed the bumpy roads into metro roads in the capital region.
