As the wedding season approaches, designer to Bollywood biggies, Sabyasachi Mukherjee is back to helping some brides to be look their stunning best, with another season of his popular bridal reality show on the small screen. This time though, along with the brides, there’s a makeover in store for grooms too. Speaking about the thought behind the idea, the designer tells us, “A bride alone cannot complete the picture. When people post wedding pics on social media, both the bride’s, and the groom’s outfits are equally noticed, which is why we are working with couples this season. I keep coming back to this because I am becoming a brand, and have little time left for consumers. As a designer, it’s important to be in touch with regular brides from different backgrounds and know what works for them.”

Sharing his experience working with brides over the years, the designer laughs, “I’ve faced a lot of Bridezilla moments. Every bride has strange requests; they have too many ideas in mind and want to have everything. I’ve rarely met a girl who knows exactly what she wants. Every bride has such big dreams about her wedding look.”

Sharing some tips for brides- to-be this season, Sabya tells us, “Going traditional is big this season. I think it’s also because PM Modi has been promoting Indian culture so much. Strong shades of red are back as a favourite for brides. This can be teamed with traditional jewellery.”

While top actresses like Sridevi, Deepika Padukone, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and others have often been seen flaunting his creations, he accepts his film projects only rarely. He says, “I dress up actors to help express themselves better. I love the choices that Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra make in terms of fashion. When it comes to films you have to work according to the light effects, coordinating with the DOP. It is hard work and you have to adjust the outfits accordingly. If I do get a good offer though, I’m open to working on films.”

While he is the go-to person for the stars, the designer reveals that his personal style is extremely simple. “I stick to my white shirts,  and blue jeans, and , simple trousers. Looking like a new person everyday isn’t on my mind.”
