The French Malayali danseuse Paris Laxmi, who was last seen onscreen as Michelle in Bangalore Days, had played a role much similar to hers, a foreigner who comes to India to study an Indian dance form and ends up marrying a Malayali — Kathakali artiste Pallipuram Sunil in real life and Nivin Pauly in the reel.
The dancer-cum-actress is now coming back to the big screen with two projects in the pipeline, one of which features her as the female lead. Interestingly, both films will have Biju Menon as the lead hero. In the Krish Kymal movie, Olappeeppi, she will essay the role of an American artist and Biju Menon’s wife, Helena. The stills of the film show the actress in a modern avatar, wearing jeans and top. This will be the first time that Paris Laxmi plays a lead role in a film.
In her other outing, Rajesh Nair’s Salt Mango Tree, however, she will be portraying a supporting character and the posters showcase her in a traditional look, draped in a Kerala saree. Thanks to the actress’ mixed cultural identities of being French by birth and Indian by heart, the roles she gets offered look to be the best of both worlds.
