Zooey Deschanel explains Elsie Otter choice

Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik revealed their daughter’s name on Monday night — Elsie Otter. On the Today Show on Tuesday morning, Zooey said they chose the unusual name simply because they loved otters. “They are very sweet and they are also smart,” she said, “They use tools, they keep their favourite tools. They hold hands while they sleep... Who doesn’t love otters?”

When asked what she thought Elsie would do if she grew up to hate the name, Zooey said, “I love otters, she better love otters. We don’t know yet because she’s only a few months old. But she’s going to.”
