Chennai: DMK president Karunanidhi on Tuesday accused Chief Minister Jayalalithaa of doing too little to check inflation, especially the spiraling price of cereals in the state. Claiming that the price of tur dal was Rs 52 per kg when the AIADMK assumed office in 2011 and it has reached Rs 210 per kg now, Karunanidhi referred to the statement of TN Traders Federation leader Vikrama Raja to drive home the point that the state government's measures were grossly insufficient.

The state's monthly dhal requirement of over a lakh tons will normally be procured during January- February cultivation season, which the state and central governments had failed to so do and hence the current steep rise in dal price. The 500 metric tons procured by the State from the Centre is only eyewash; Karunanidhi quoted Vikrama Raja as saying.
