VIJAYAWADA: District officials have made elaborate arrangements to celebrate Dasara on a grand note with a Teppotsavam on Thursday.
Regarding the arrangements, joint-collector on Wednesday conducted a review meeting with the engineering department executives and decided to begin the celestial ride on Thursday evening.
The officials have spent Rs 2.2 lakh for makeover works for the boats. So far, 7 lakh devotees from various parts of the state and from other states have visited the temple and sought the blessings of the deity Sri Kanaka Durga Devi, according to the officials. The temple has fetched approximately Rs 2.2 crore through sales of laddu prasadam, tamarind rice prasadam, VIP tickets, and conducting special poojas.
In another incident, temple officials atop Indrakeeladri reportedly meted out rough treatment to devotees by blocking them in queue lines so that VIPs and their families could have darshnam.
On Wednesday, officials of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanams played a spoilsport by blocking all devotees in Antaralayam queue line for more than an hour till VIPs and their families had a darshanam of the deity.
Reacting on the incident, devotees expressed anger on the archakas and officials for their partial treatment. "Temple officials are creating artificial rush by closing all entrances of Sanctum sanctorum for VIPs. We have waited in the Antaralayam queue line, but we didn't get the darshnam in the sanctum sanctorum," said a devotee Venkateswara Rao expressing his anger on the officials
