Mirwaiz Farooq to organise demonstration against trucker's killing
Bhat died on October 18 due to severe burn injuries sustained in a petrol bomb attack
Srinagar: Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has invited top separatist leaders and civil society members to join him in a protest demonstration on Friday at Jamia Masjid against the killing of trucker Zahid Bhat.
"Mirwaiz has invited resistance leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, Kashmir High Court Bar Association President Mian Muhammad Qayoom, civil society activists and other resistance leaders to participate in the sit-in programme," a Hurriyat spokesman said in a statement.
While Mirwaiz is under house arrest, Geelani was detained at police post Humhama today after he tried to defy house arrest orders.
Malik is lodged at Kothibagh police station since Wednesday as authorities foiled the plan of the separatists to hold a public gathering in Anantnag town, on the fourth day ceremony of Bhat's death.
Bhat died on October 18 due to severe burn injuries sustained in a petrol bomb attack on a truck at Udhampur on October 9.
