BengaluruThird seed Saketh Myneni overcame a late resistance by Dane Propoggia to advance to the quarterfinals of the AirAsia Open Challenger tournament at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association, on Wednesday. The lanky Indian won 6-4, 7-6 (9).

Saketh banked on his strong serves to bail him out of tough situations on quite a few occasions, eventually, and fittingly, winning with an ace — his 10th of the match.

Despite his service prowess, Propoggia drew first blood when he broke Saketh’s serve in the fifth game of the first set only for the 166-ranked player to break back in the very next game to restore parity at 3-3.

The Indian Davis Cupper then broke in the 10th game to take the first set 6-4. The second set saw the No.3 seed seize the break in the second game before battling past a break point with a strong backhand return to take a 3-0 lead.

Following a medical time out, Propoggia broke back in the seventh game to force the tie breaker which the local star claimed with a crosscourt passing forehand and a trademark serve down the middle.
