Mumbai: Omung Kumar’s biopic based on Sarabjit Singh has kicked off. The film has Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda cast as brother and sister. Richa Chaddha recently signed the dotted line to play the role of Randeep’s wife.
The team visited the places associated with Sarabjit, which includes Wagha Border and the small villages around it. They even visited Dalbir Kaur’s house, where they extensively spoke about the intricate details related to the film.
The film revolves on the struggle of a sister, Dalbir to release her brother from Pakistan. Sarabjit, an Indian national, was convicted of terrorism and spying by a Pakistani court and sentenced to death in 1991 but the government had stayed his execution for an indefinite period in 2008.
Dalbir fought for her brother's release from the Lahore jail but her quest ended tragically when he died in 2013 following a brutal attack by fellow prisoners. The team will be shooting for 70-days in Punjab. Meanwhile, Aishwarya is shooting for Karan Johar's next 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' in London and Randeep is gearing up for the release of 'Main Aur Charles'. The film is slated to release next year in May.
