BENGALURU: The questioning of Harish Babu and Madhu, who fatally stabbed Doddaballapura Town SI S. Jagadish, has revealed that they were under the influence of narcotics when they killed the SI last Friday.

Police sources said the two accused are showing no sings of remorse for the murder. “Both the accused are addicted to vices such as drugs, liquor and women. They are of the mindset that they should enjoy life everyday and will do anything for that. It is revealed that even on the day of murder, they had taken some drugs before coming to the vehicle showroom. Probably they would not have gathered the courage to murder a policeman, if they were not under the influence of narcotic substances,” an official said.

“When questioned on why they took away SI’s service pistol after the murder, they said that they feared that other policemen would take it and shoot them,” the official added.

Further, it is said that Harish Babu is a HIV positive patient and intends to spend the remaining days happily. “I know I won’t live for many years. I just want to enjoy the remaining days of my life and don’t repent committing crimes,” the official said quoting Babu.

Pistol recovered, one held

The police have arrested Hanumantharamu in Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh and seized the service revolver of Jagadish from him.

“The accused had revealed that they had given the pistol to Hanumantharamu as soon as they met him in Kurnool the next day after the incident. Hanumanatharamu runs a jewellery shop in Kurnool and was close to Madhu. He is known for receiving stolen gold valuables from thieves and disposing them. So immediately after the murder, they got in touch with Hanumantharamu for financial assistance,” the official said.

“Based on the information provided by the accused, Hanumantharamu was arrested and the pistol, dagger used to stab Mr. Jagadish, and the clothesthe accused were wearing at the time of incident were recovered from Hanumantharamu’s house. He had hidden the pistol in the toilet. Incidentally when we laid the trap to nab the accused through a jail inmate, Hanumantharamu’s name also figured for allegedly arranging accommodation and money for the accused,” the official revealed.

The accused, who were brought to the city on Wednesday night, were produced before the JMFC Court in Nelamangala on Thursday morning. They were remanded in police custody till November 4.
