Hindu unity to cover up misdeeds: NSS
The NSS will not bar any community from contesting in the elections
Kottayam: The move for a broad Hindu unity in Kerala initiated by the BJP-RSS leadership has received a serious setback with the NSS dissociating itself from it and saying it was intended to safeguard the selfish interests of certain people and hide their misdeeds.
Making his position clear, Nair Service Society general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair said, “NSS is a secular organisation and will not form any political outfit or align with any parties. We will maintain our equidistance stand,” said Mr Nair addressing the Nair Mahasammelanam at Perunna on Friday.
Maintaining that the NSS has no aversion to any political party, he said it has a political stand, but no politics as such.
“We haven’t achieved our strength by associating with any political party. We have stood for secularism, democracy and social justice. We will criticise if there is a wrong deed regardless of any political party,” he said.
“The NSS will not bar any community from contesting in the elections. However, it will not allow anyone to contest on the label of NSS Karayogam which consists of those belonging to various political parties,” he added.
The NSS had achieved its rights by maintaining the equidistance stand, except regarding the issue of reservation. “The organisation is not against any religion,” he said.
Reiterating the NSS stand that those financially backward among the forward and backward communities should be given reservation, he said the present reservation laws should be changed.
The NSS would follow the equidistance policy in the local body elections, he said.
