R K Nagar to get industrial training institute at Rs 7.06 crore
The sanctioned funds will be used to set up the centre in ward 40 of corporation at the earliest
Chennai: A day after allocating Rs 8 crore for setting up an arts and science college in her Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar constituency, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Friday allocated another Rs 7.06 crore for setting up an Industrial Training Institute in the constituency.
A press release from the secretariat said that the sanctioned funds will be used to set up the centre in ward 40 of Chennai corporation at the earliest and as on date about 29,000 students are undertaking skilled training at 77 government ITIs. In the past four years the state has established 15 ITIs benefitting 3,000 students.
Besides the ITI at R K Nagar the state will also be setting up five new ITIs at Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Virudhunagar, Perambalur and Villupuram, the release said.
It may be added that Chief Minister J. Jayalaithaa in the recent Assembly session announced a new government arts college and an ITI for the R K Nagar constituency. The state should add more computer oriented training in ITIs so that the students will have both industrial training equipped with computer applications, said K. Karunanidhi, a retired engineer with auto major Ashok Leyland. The ITI is a bonus to the much neglected North Chennai and such training will enhance the job opportunities for skilled youngsters, the local resident added.
