Hyderabad: The APCC is copying AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s initiative of collecting earth and water from 16,000-odd villages in AP for the Amaravati ceremonies, but with a twist. To protest CM N. Chandrababu Naidu not announcing any sops for AP, the party on Saturday launched a ‘matti (soil) satyagraha’.
APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy said that as part of the protest, grassroot Congress workers will collect a fistful of earth and pitchers of water from 16,000 villages and mail them to the PM. “When the people were hoping for a positive statement from Mr Modi on special status and special package, Mr Modi gifted the state a fistful of earth collected from the Parliament precints and a pitcher of water from the Yamuna. We will embark on the Matti satyagraha on the lines of the Uppu (salt) satyagraha to remind the PM of the promises made to AP,” he said.
