THRISSUR: Had the CBI conducted a probe into the allegations of corruption in Consumerfed,  Co-operation Minister C.N. Balakrishan would have been hand-cuffed, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said.

Addressing an election meeting at  Muthuvara here on Saturday,  he said,  “though there were demands for a CBI probe into the matter from Congress leaders, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy did not give his nod  for it  to protect the minister.”

Mr Kodiyeri said that there was unity in Congress only for sharing the spoils of corruption.  Referring to the murders of local functionaries of Congress like Madhu Eacharath, Lalji Kollannur in 2013 and A.C. Hanifa in August this year, he  said that  these murders,  which were the results of factional feuds within the Congress,  had made the district notorious.

“The Congress is not able to protect the  lives of its  own partymen,” he said.
