Hyderabad: Careless demolition of illegal structures at Jawaharnagar by the enforcement staff belonging to the Shameerpet mandal nearly claimed the life of a man on Saturday.
The workers knocked down nine unauthorised structures that were constructed on government land. No check was carried out to see if the house was empty or not. At one of the houses, a man was still inside when the workers set themselves upon the building.
Mr Srinivas Rao was resting in the house after painting it. The enforcement wing staff started demolition without checking or evacuating the house. Cement blocks fell on Mr Srinivas Rao, who suffered head and leg injuries.
It was only when he shouted in pain did the workers realise that there was someone inside. He was pulled out of the debris and rushed to a hospital in Kapra where doctors said that he was out of danger.
The demolition was carried out at the Devendernagar Colony, Survey No. 324, Jawaharnagar, where the mandal revenue officials had identified illegal rooms and two unauthorised foundations.
Shamirpet tahsildar told this newsaper that officials had received a call from the locals stating many rooms were being constructed on government land and a ceremony had been performed on Dasara.
The mandal enforcement wing demobilised all the nine rooms and two foundations. The painter who was injured during demolition was immediately shifted to a hospital.
