Tamil Nadu ahead of all states in organ donation, says Narendra Modi in 'Mann Ki Baat'

New Delhi: Asserting that organ donation is an important issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised Tamil Nadu for their leading endeavours in this regard while praising the other states for their initiatives towards the cause.

"Some girls from Kerala asked me to talk about organ donation. Organ donation is an important issue. The need for kidneys, heart and livers is high but less number of transplants happen," he said while addressing the nation in the 13th edition of his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme.

Here are the highlights: 

• Today India and South Africa will be playing the 5th ODI. Both teams have won two matches so it'll be an interesting match. I would like to convey my best wishes.
• Some girls from Kerala asked me to talk about organ donation. Devesh from Delhi called and shared the same sentiment.
• Organ donation is an important issue. The need for kidneys, heart and livers is high but less number of transplants happen.
• Some states have taken a lead on organ donation and made processes simpler. Tamil Nadu has done well in this.
• India and Africa have many similarities. So many people of Indian origin have been staying in Africa.
• Shri Karia Munda has adopted a village in his seat. He started visiting the village and instilled life in systems and machinery.
• In Andhra Pradesh, Shri Ashok Gajapati Raju urged students to teach the elders of the village. So many people gained from the lessons.
• Shri CL Ruala, from Mizoram has actively participated in Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.
• How can it be possible that there is 'Mann Ki Baat' and I don't talk about cleanliness.
• Want to thank the media for their efforts towards a clean India.
• Government has completed whole process to do away with interviews for low rank jobs; it will come into effect from 1 Jan, 2016.
• Peace, harmony and unity are the key to progress.
• Government of India also encourages talented girls & boys from dalit communities.
• Central and State governments provide scholarships to students from dalit, tribal and backward communities for studies abroad.
• Gold monetisation Scheme, a guarantee for security, will be available to the nation in the coming weeks.

The 13th edition of 'Mann Ki Baat' faced hurdles after the Congress called for a ban on the Prime Minister's programme.

"Every month the Prime Minister does his Mann Ki Baat, but he remains a mute spectator to other important issues. Prime Minister Modi is losing his credibility in the country and the people are not ready to hear his programme anymore. When his voice comes on the radio, people switch off their radios," Congress leader Rashid Alvi said.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier urged people to share their ideas for the programme on the MyGov Open Forum. He also invited people to share their voice messages for the programme on the toll-free number 1800-3000-7800.
