Mumbai: When Virat Kohli notched up his 23rd ODI century in Chennai to help India win the door-die encounter, it was his 16th ton at the one-drop position. His seven other centuries have come at No 4 in 40 games at a highly impressive average of 58.13. With the team management opting to try out various options at three and four, the dashing batsman made his preference clear, saying he prefers to arrive in the middle after the fall of the first wicket. “I feel at home batting at No.3. The reason is I have played a lot of games there. I know that I have a decent record at No.4 as well. I have realised that No.3 is where my game is in international level,” he said here on Saturday.
Justifying his decision, Kohli said he felt he was in complete control of the game batting at three. “If I get in early at three, I have the option to analyse the game and play accordingly. I want to execute my plans batting at No.3. I feel confident that I can control the game better at No.3.”
Never short on self confidence, the 26-year-old said he and the Indian team were pumped up for the big final. “A game like tomorrow is something I want to be a part of. You always want to be performing and winning the game. The feeling you get after winning is hard to replicate in any aspect of life,” he said.
