The prestigious J.C. Daniel Award, an annual award given by the Government of Kerala, has landed on his doorstep and the veteran filmmaker is on cloud nine. “Many awards are given posthumously. I’m glad that I got the award during my lifetime,” he smiles.

The director, who was away from the limelight owing to his health condition, is now planning to comeback. “The scripting process of my next film is going on. Mohanlal will be playing the lead role,” says Sasi, who is confident of making a comeback.

The director, who has made more than 150 movies, owes it all to his closest friend Kamal Haasan, with whom he shares a special bond. Sasi has directed Kamal in Tamil
and Malayalam films.

“Kamal is like my brother. Cinema has been our common passion and we always discussed about it very often. Before becoming a film director, I was working as an art director for films. Kamal was teaching dance and I was teaching art at Christian Arts and Communication Centre, Alwarpet.”
