Hyderabad: A junior accountant from the Telangana state electricity department allegedly tried to throw his five-day-old daughter into the Nallacheruvu lake at Uppal as she was physically challenged.

Police said J. Jagadeeswar, 35, a resident of Karmanghat in the city, came to the lake with the baby girl at about 8 pm “Locals noticed him standing near the lake, confused and anxious. His behaviour did not appear normal."

"They alerted the Dial 100 service while stopping him. We were informed by the dial 100 centre and our patrol team reached there,” said Uppal inspector Y. Narasimha Reddy.

Police informs wife

The police brought the man and baby to the police station and informed his family including his wife J. Prathima.

Police said both of Jagadeeswar’s daughter’s legs were affected. According to doctors she might not be able to walk properly, said a police official.

On Sunday evening, he took the baby without informing his wife and came to the lake to drown here. But he could not do it quickly because of guilt, police said.

Senior officials are counselling the couple, who has been married for more than four years now.
