Help the poor, VIT’s Selvam tells youth
The function was organised by ‘Nasva Association’, with its president Ganesh presiding over it
VELLORE: “It is an important duty always to help poor people when they needed our support, may be physically or financially, for any development in their lives,” said the VIT University vice president G.V.Selvam, at a special function organised in Kazhinjur on Sunday on his birthday eve.
Selvam in the function planted 60 saplings near the Kazhinjur Jain higher secondary school and said planting of trees should be carried out regularly. When the plants become trees, they give out oxygen for “us to breathe clean air,” he reasoned. At the function, Selvam distributed 100 by-cycles, stationery items to 150 students and also dresses to more than 100 aged persons.
The function was organised by ‘Nasva Association’, with its president Ganesh presiding over it. ‘Pepsi’ Srinivasan, Krishnasamy higher secondary school correspondent Ambika Sivakumar, councillors Selvi and Sugendran, besides several members of the association participated in the function.
In a blood-camp organised by Indian Red Cross Society with Vellore Nethaji Subhas Chandra Bose Youth Federation, more than 100 youths volunteered their blood. IRCS District Secretary Bharath Indernath presided. Mr Selvam was the chief-guest of the function and in his speech he stressed the importance of blood-donation. The Anaikattu MLA Kalai Arasu inaugurated the camp by lighting a traditional lamp.
