KOCHI: The Director General of Police in the state should not project himself as an extra-constitutional authority in the matter connected with the stray dog menace in the state, Kochouseph Chittilappally said on Sunday.
Before starting a 24-hour hunger strike for the stray dog-free Kerala, billionaire businessman made scathing attack against the DGP for his statement that cases will be filed against persons indulging in action against stray dogs.
Mr. Chittilappally attacked Maneka Gandhi Union Minister for Woman and Child Welfare for her strict opposition to measures against stray dog menace. “She is getting money from companies engaged in the manufacture of anti-rabies vaccine”, he alleged. He also ridiculed the animal lovers for limiting their concern only to street dogs.
The 24-hour hunger strike at Marine Drive in Kochi will come to an end on Monday at 10 am. Several individuals and organisations came to the venue to support the cause highlighted by Mr. Chittilappally. Supporters of Chittilapally held a solidarity meeting in Delhi on Sunday.
A tense situation prevailed in the inaugural venue as Vijesh, a person injured in an accident at Veegaland, the amusement park owned by Chittilappaly held a protest accompanied by his family members. Vijesh alleged that Chittilappally has failed to provide proper compensation for him after the accident.
Justice (Retd) Narayana Kurup, currently the chairman of Police Complaint Authority, ridiculed Chittilappally and said resorting to hunger strike will not solve the street dog menace. Instead of hunger strike persons like Chittialappally should build a proper rehabilitation centre for street dogs, he said.
