Private persons can also get permission for setting up of Modern Parking places

Kakinada: Motorists in Kakinada, the largest city in East Godavari district, will soon have the  pleasure of having Bengaluru-model automated parking lots in the city. It will ease traffic congestion in the city proper, which is being turned into a Smart City.

Kakinada municipal corporation (KMC) will provide multi-storied parking lots that will also have cranes to arrange vehicles as is happening in Ben-galuru and other big cities.

KMC wants to set up the parking lots in three places close to the municipal corporation school near Ananda Bharathi Grounds in Cinema Road, at the Santha Cheruvu (Sandy Tank) and on the Main Road. “The parking lots will facilitate free flow of traffic in the city besides easing the traffic congestion in busy market area and the Main Road,” said S. Aleem Basha, KMC commissioner.

The project would be taken up under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. Motorists will have to keep their vehicles only in these modern parking lots when they are out for shopping etc. No vehicle will be allowed into the market after the completion of parking lots.

Meanwhile, citizens of Kakinada have urged officials to also consider alternative methods for easing the traffic congestion, alongside setting up of multi-storied parking lots.

“Widening of roads is a must to improve traffic conditions and commercial activities in the older parts of the town. Many of the side-roads such as NFCL Road, Jagannaic-kpur, Main Road and Kakinada-Pithapuram Road have been encro-ached upon by push-cart vendors. KMC should demarcate alternative spaces to vendors and clear the roads,”said Kakinada Rate Payers Association president YD Ramarao.

He also suggested that KMC take the initiative for constructing another two railway over-bridges and completion of the Kondaiahpalem railway over-bridge.
