Actor Srikanth seems to be picking up good scripts of late and his soon-to-hit-screens film titled Om Shanthi Om (OSO), is the blockbuster title of Shah Rukh Khan’s 2007 Bollywood movie. But, the director of the movie, Suryaprabhakar says that his film has got nothing to do with SRK’s film, and here ‘Shanthi’ denotes the heroine Neelam Upadhyay’s character name. OSO is also the first Indian film to be shot in Cambodia’s Angkor Wat Temple, the world’s largest religious monument.
“Normally, they don’t give permission to shoot at this heritage temple. With great difficulty, my producer Arumai Chandran who has friends in Cambodia, got the necessary consent to shoot. We shot there for three days, canning a romantic song sequence. The only problem we faced, was it was extremely hot,” says the director. Though the movie is about ghosts, it doesn’t scare much and kids would love it, claims Prabhakar. No wonder, despite being a horror comedy, the film has been awarded a ‘U’ Certification from Censors. The story is about how the lead protagonist helps wronged souls to realise their unfulfilled wishes.
“In the process, he lands himself in troubles which affects his love life, and how he smartly comes out of it all, forms the crux of the film. It is a very positive flick with a social message,” he says. The movie has been shot extensively in and around Tiruchy.
