Beginning with Dev D in 2009, the super-talented Amit Trivedi has come a long way indeed. With his award-winning composition for Queen and several nominations in his kitty, the singer-cum-composer marks his debut on television with Star Plus’ Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi. In a chat with us, Amit talks about working with the Big B and upcoming projects.

How did Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi happen for you?
Mr Bachchan called me one night and briefed me about the show. I went home, I was excited and created something meanwhile... He wanted a specific kind of song. He wanted a symphonic and orchestral approach to the song.

What was working with Amitabh Bachchan like?
His involvement and enthusiasm is impeccable. With him, I was always on my toes. One thing that I have learned from him is to be in sync with time.

What is the difference between composing music for films and television?
Apart from the process, it’s it’s just the technical difference since television is stereo. just the technical difference, since television is stereo.

You’re doing the music for Milan Talkies and Akira. Please tell us something about them.
That I’m composing for Milan Talkies is a complete rumour! The project never came to me. Yes, the makers of Akira did approach me, but I couldn’t take it up because of date issues.

So then what’s on the Bollywood anvil post-Shaandaar?
I have almost completed Fitoor and Udta Punjab. I am really excited about these two films.
