Chhota Rajan faces 28 extortion, 12 murder cases
First case against Rajan was registered at Tilak Nagar police station in Mumbai
Mumbai: Out of the 68 cases against Chhota Rajan, 28 are extortion cases where his men extorted builders and hoteliers and businessmen. Over a dozen cases are of MCOCA, a dozen of murder and attempt to murder, and a dozen of Arms Act cases.
The first case against Rajan was registered at Tilak Nagar police station in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai where he was booked for attempt to murder in 1979. He was booked under POTA by crime branch unit 11 in Kandivali in 2004. In Bhandup, a case of Tada was registered against him in 1992. In Tilak Nagar, another case was registered against him in 1993.

- Where is he currently? Indonesian Police were questioning Nikalje in Bali police headquarter in Denpasar, the provincial capital, and coordinating with Indian diplomats for a deportation process
How did the arrest come about - He was arrested on Sunday after arriving at Bali's airport from Sydney, based on a red notice from Interpol and following a tip from Australian authorities in Canberra.
In popular culture: A 2002 film, Company had a character Chandu having some resemblances with Chhota Rajan with real-life Dawood Ibrahim gang. Also, the 1999 film Vaastav, starring Sanjay Dutt was loosely based on Rajan’s life.
The D Connection: After the 1993 Bombay serial blasts, Dawood and Rajan fell out. There were even reports that he tipped off the RAW about the D-network. The Dawood-Rajan party was over, the messy end coming in September 2000, with Shakeel’s attack on Rajan in his Bangkok hotel room.
- In 2000, there was an attempt on his life when Dawood’s men tracked him down to a hotel in Bangkok but he managed to escape through the hotel’s roof.
- After the split, Rajan formed his own gang. Reports of bloody shootouts between Rajan and Dawood's hoodlums have been common since the split.
