RAICHUR: The possibility of total boycott of Rajyotsava celebrations in the district appears bright with most of pro-Kannada organisations as well as the IIT Manjoorati Horata Samiti deciding to give calls for boycotting to press their demand for establishing IIT in Raichur.

Besides these two, there are chances of many other organisations, which have taken part in the agitation for IIT, joining hands to boycott the Rajyotsava celebrations with office-bearers of these organisations dropping hints in this regard. Only a formal announcement is awaited from them.

According to Mr Basavaraj Kalasad, President of IIT Manjoorati Horata Samiti, the people of the district were  disappointed with the “injustice” meted out in establishing IIT at Raichur. “While the state government had harmed the interests of Raichur by recommending three names to the Centre, the latter has done injustice by favouring Dharwad. We will convene a meeting on October 25 and take a final decision on boycotting the celebration,” he said.
