Bengaluru: Senior advocate Ravivarma Kumar resigned as Advocate General here on Monday, reportedly over the state government’s decision to appoint two Additional Advocate Generals without consulting him.

Sources in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat said that Prof Kumar submitted his resignation on Monday morning.

Sources said that Prof Kumar was unhappy with the state government’s decision to appoint senior advocates Raghavendra Nadagouda and Devadatt Kamat as Additional Advocate Generals.

It is also learnt that Prof Kumar was not consulted while making these crucial appointments. This is the second time that Prof Kumar has submitted his resignation from the post.

In March 2014, he had resigned after the state appointed two senior counsel to argue cases related to Cauvery and Krishna river water disputes in the Supreme Court without consulting him. He, however, withdrew his resignation later.
