Angry with atrocities, writer wants separate country for Dalits
These demands are generally raised for administrative reasons
Bengaluru: Demand for separate taluk, district, state are common across the country. These demands are generally raised for administrative reasons. But following the brutal burning of the two dalit toddlers in Haryana and increasing atrocities on dalits across the country especially in the North India region, a young Dalit writer from the Mysuru city has created a Facebook page demanding separate country for dalits. This FB page has been named Agitation Committee for a separate country.
Mr. Harohalli Ravindra, an author and dalit activist has launched this page. According to the map released as part of this demand, separate country for the dalits is earmarked in all the southern states.
Why separate country? Speaking to this newspaper, Mr. Harohalli Ravindra justified his decision to launch the FB page to realise the dream of self rule. “In last 65 years of independence, atrocities on dalits in the country have continued unabated and even today they are living in fear. Till now, no dalit has been able to become Prime Minister of the country or Chief Minister of the country,” he said.
“Dalits are spread across the globe. Between 2014 and 2015, atrocities on dalits increased by 19% in the country. To achieve the goal of self administration, I have launched this Facebook page. If a separate country is formed, we can have administration of our own where there will not be any atrocities,” he said.
What is in the page: According to the description provided in the Facebook page, it will enable like-minded people to speak, discuss and take the movement forward towards creating a separate country.
Mixed reaction
Interestingly this page has received mixed reaction. Many have supported the page and a separate country for dalits; few have observed that demanding a separate country will not solve the problems of the dalits.
